clek THIS!

Calling all grannies, grampies, mommas and daddies! My friend Amy over at Pregnant Chicken (well, she doesn’t really know we’re friends, but I’m hoping if she met me she’d wanna join the party) did an amazing review of a clek fllo carseat (yes, that’s all spelled correctly) and I wanted to share what I learned. Y’all know I’m all about car seat safety!

~ A gentle reminder: I use Amazon referral links. When you do your shopping through the Amazon links on this page, you support the blog at no cost to yourself. It’s much appreciated!~

clek fllo:(

First of all, to all of the um, wiser, good-lookin’, generation: These aren’t the car seats you strapped your kiddo in.  Nope.  These babies are like something outta a science fiction film, all steel enforced and airplane worthy.  I simply tell you this because I don’t want you to be all WHOA! and dismiss the whippersnappers in their reinvention of the proverbial wheel when you watch the short film up next.

Get the lights!

Thanks, Amy!

That’s one impressive car seat, right?

So let’s talk about the biggie first: the cost.  The clek seats can run up to $450.  ~faint~  Although, Amazon does a great job of offering the cleks on sale: Go, Amazon!

[Tweet “Keeping kiddos safe in a car seat, whatever certified car seat you choose is what we’re after.”]

As Amy states in her video, this is a big purchase and doesn’t mean that a different car seat isn’t right for your family.  This is the kind of purchase that can be thought of as an investment or a gift that a couple of friends can go in on, or grandparents offer. ~winkittywink~

If the clek fllo isn’t for you, they also make the clek foonf, which is remarkably similar, but different.

clek foonf:

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Clek combines safety for children with ease of use for parents in the foonf convertible car seat to create the most advanced child safety seat ever made. Features include: rear-facing 14 to 50 pounds; forward-facing 20 to 65 pounds. Unique rigid-latch system makes proper forward-facing installation effortless (the seat slides into place, and the rigid-latch system securely grips the car’s built-in lower latch connectors). For improved rear-facing installation, the cushion pops off to provide easy access to the belt path.

One of the most effective innovations in automotive safety is the crumple zone–the area of the vehicle that deforms and crumples upon impact, absorbing energy from the impact and preventing force from being transmitted to the vehicle’s occupants. Foonf’s react safety system borrows that principle to provide optimal safety in forward-facing collision. With the react safety system, an aluminum honeycomb crumples upon impact absorbing the sudden change in momentum, resulting in less force transferred to the child.

Optimal side-impact protection – designed with a rigid metal substructure and strategically positioned energy-absorbing foam layers in the body of the seat and in the adjustable headrest- includes a steel anti-rebound bar that braces against the vehicle seat’s back, limiting the rotation of the child seat, helping to protect your child’s head from impact.

Designed at 17″ wide (widest point) making 3-across possible- easy-to-operate recline function- height adjustable crotch buckle – made with green guard select certified crypton super fabrics, which provide permanent protection against stains, moisture, and bacteria; and are free of brominated and chlorinated flame-retardants- foonf is recyclable through Clek’s recycling network- 9-year expiration and 1-year manufacturer’s limited warranty.

As you can see, these seats are good up to 50 pounds rear-facing which is the gold standard these days, yet they convert to front-facing after 50 pounds.  Huzzah!

I know lots of parents upgrade car seats as their babies outgrow the original, and it appears that the clek could be a great solution to that issue.

As for me, I am digging the crumple technology.  All of us will do what we can to keep our sweet peas safe and the thought of having to extricate a child after a car accident makes all of us dizzy with worry, so offer me some extra protection and I’m in. At that point the extra cash is peanuts when compared to a life.

Having just brushed off the cost like it’s nothing, know that I know it’s something, a lot of somethings, especially in today’s economy.  I’m just pointing out a product that you may or may not have seen before that you’ll decide you may or may not need.  That’s what I’m about: choices!  Everyone likes them, right?

The bottom line?  Keeping kiddos safe in a car seat, whatever certified car seat you happen to choose. After all, that’s what we’re all after here.

Stay safe out there, my babies!  DO IT!

Rosemond: They do have a booster seat! It is highly rated. As for this carseat, I own it and LOVE it.

Pros: 1. Huge steal bars go through the seat and make it super safe 2. The cloth is water proof and easy to clean 3. It sits really high which my little one loves so he can see out the window 4. Doesn't take up too much room side to side 5. It is really cute and fun to brag to your friends about :)

Cons: 1. It is SUPER heavy, this thing will NOT move from your car (unless you are crazy). It is kind of hard to rate this as a con because the steal bars is what makes it so heavy 2. Cant travel with it, will have to buy a travel carseat 3. It takes up quite a bit of room going front to back- you have to push the passenger seat up

Would I buy again... YES!

Thanks for the informative review, Carissa! It's always good to hear from someone who owns and has actual experience with the product.
