Me? I’m Gonna Be a W-H-A-T?!

Oh Dear Readers, I’m going to be a grandmother.  Me.  The gal who cusses like a sailor, shoots guns, runs marathons, yells at the Crazy Bitches of Whatever City at Bravo, is mortified by Honey Boo Boo but still manages to watch, eats candy like a 12-year-old, snorts while laughing and finds fart jokes immensely funny… do grandmothers even do that?!

Do they have the right gal?

I say we start praying for sweet wonderful Baby-T now.  He/she is gonna need it with me as Grandmother, Grandma, Nana, Mimi, Gaga, oh hell, all those were shot down by Boy, so I told him (purely as a joke): Fine, if we can’t agree on a name, the baby can call me Mrs. Tucker.

The thought of my grandchild calling me Mrs. Tucker makes me laugh, and anyone I’ve told the story to thinks it’s funny, but I fear it may have stuck.

Like I said, pray people.

ON YOUR KNEES!

I agree with some of the others, the kiddo will most likely name you! I decided on Grama but to my little one who is most far away I'm "OmaDarlin". When she was a wee one and I wold come to visit I started singing "oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling, Charlotte Ann.....you are Grama's girl forever... Oh my darlin' Charlotte Ann" (to the tune of Clementine). I sang it whenever I saw her as a babe, when we spoke on the phone it was always the first thing I said because I wanted her to know who I was from faraway. Well, it worked so well that one day when she was about two she saw a picture of me scroll past on the computer screensaver and immediately started saying, "OmaDarlin' OmaDarlin'" and it has stuck! Whatever your name, we all know the translation in any language is LOVE! Congratulations!

OmaDarlin'! Cutest name I have heard so far. The story is priceless.

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you, and so thrilled to have joining the grandmahood such a real person admitting to doing the real things that (yes, real) grandmothers do! You are going to be such a light in that grandchild's life. I'm happy to have "met" you now, for I can't wait to hear all about your transition into the role.

Thank you so much for joining the GRAND Social, Mrs. Tucker!

Ha! I don't know whether to be embarrassed or complimented! (a little of both) Thank you so much for hosting the social. It was fun to get to see so many other grandparents.

Congratulations! But as a grandma with 4.5 years experience I believe that it will probably be your beloved grandchild who names you! One day the word will just slip out of the mouth of that babe and your heart will melt with joy and you might even cry, but you will never, never again mention the name you decided ahead you want to be called! When you hear your new grandma name in that sweet little voice, you'll drop everything and run - for the rest of your life! Yep, I think that's the way it's gonna be for you!

I have actually said that when people press me to change from Mrs. Tucker to something more traditional. I'm ready: what's my name, baby?!
