5 Things I’m Grateful For Right Now

Quick, name 5 things you’re grateful for right now

5 Things I’m Grateful For Right Now

Did you hesitate? Or were you able to knock out five solid things?

I hesitated when I first saw the question, but it wasn’t because I didn’t have five easy go-to items to impress you with my speed (like that could ever happen.~snort~), it was because I wanted to take my time thinking about, then sit in my gratefulness for a bit, before pounding out ALL THE WORDS about my list.

And sit I did. Oh, how it made me happy to see the grace in my life, the good in my life. In a world that focuses on the harsh and the horrible, it’s a soothing balm to dwell on the simple pleasures.

To the list!

5 Things I’m Grateful For Right Now

#1: My world, our world, was turned upside down last spring when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. On the first day of doctor rounds, we were overwhelmed in fear and confusion. Our lives changed instantly and the best we could do was move forward, hopeful, prayerful, for the best outcome. This year, right now, our worlds have been returned to us almost intact. I’m chasing life again and for this I am grateful.

#2: Do you know what it feels like to be trusted enough for anyone to entrust their kiddo with you for 10 days straight? I do! In July, Boy and Girl headed out on a camping adventure and left their three-year-old dynamo with us. I’ll never take the trust bestowed for granted and am grateful that they feel comfortable enough to let us have Sweet E all to ourselves for extended periods. Even when they know it’s an all out, wild, what-happens-at-Choochie’s-stays-at-Choochie’s, grandparent/grandkid palooza when the parents are gone!

Sweet E Fun!

#3: Cold beer. Seriously. Texas is hot, y’all. Sometimes it’s so hot in the mornings when I run that I imagine drinking an ice cold beer when I get home. I also imagine that coldy cold beer when I’m mowing in the heat. Also, when I walk to the mailbox, it would be refreshing to take a cold beer. I don’t. But, I think about it. TEXAS!

#4: What did we do in the long summers before streaming? WHAT?!  Dang, y’all, we be spoiled. I love watching binge-watching Netflix and Amazon. Oh, man. On a hot (have I mentioned it’s hot here?!) Sunday afternoon, when all you wanna do is a vegetative sprawl with snacks…STREAM THAT BADBOY!

#5: This is the time of year when the bounty of summer veggies is starting to wane. Winter is coming! I’m that person who gets giddy when I see grocery stores or farmer’s markets brimming with colorful produce in early summer. I eat as much as I can stand because I know the deliciousness has an expiration date. Right now, I’m grateful there are still watermelons to be had. Because, well, glorious juicy watermelons!

What are you grateful for? What’s on your list?

i prefer sit-and-think time too. Here are some that come to mind--and then I'll sit and luxuriate in them 1. So far, everything that's been "wrong" with my or my husband's health has been fixable. 2. We went to visit our grandkids in Albany this weekend and they were happy to see us. really happy. 3. Our son and daughter-iv-law seemed pleased to see us too. 4. We all went to a high school soccer game--my grandson is on the team--and enjoyed a Norman Rockwellian afternoon: gorgeous weather, nice kids, NICE parents [no jeering at the opposing team], good game with good sportsmanship and a win for our grandson's team [the least of the perfect day] 5. Went apple picking with my son's family on Sunday. It was so wonderful to see the orchard jam-packed with hundreds of other families taking their kids out to the orchard for the simple pleasure of apple picking. Made me feel grateful that we and all these other families could put our cell phones and credit cards away for a few hours and just enjoy the sunshine and the bounty of the fruit. Fujis. Macouns. Delicious.
