Christmas Cravings in June

I love Christmas foods.  Fine, I love food…but there’s something special about the food you only eat during a specific season, like at Christmas.

It’s during late June and early July that I start my Christmas cravings.  And just in case you don’t want to do the math, that means that I need to wait 5-6 months before my cravings are satisfied.  That’s a long time, mah babies.

When Boy was first dating Girl and we really didn’t know her or she us, we celebrated her birthday (in July) by making a full blown Thanksgiving dinner.  I had bought two turkeys the previous November and had only used one, so every time I opened the freezer there was Moe (yes, I named the gigantic 20-pounder) staring back at me, waiting to be roasted.  One day I’d had enough lookin’ and started cookin’.  I sent out family invites, and we all enjoyed a weirdly fun Thanksgiving feast/birthday celebration in the heat of the summer, complete with stuffing and pies.

To her credit, Girl still married Boy after that exhibition of familial silliness.

Which brings me to what I’m craving now:

Christmas Craving in July

Now you want one, right?!

A beloved family friend makes and delivers these bad boys/girls a few days before Christmas.  I am shameless in the fact that I will hide a few for my own personal stash.  Once, when my small nieces where visiting over Christmas, I actually hid the platter and then would sneak a limb or torso here and there until there were no more raisin buttons or cinnamon Red Hot eyes to pluck.  My actions filled me with remorse.  My sweet nieces would have loved a gingerbread man.  I confessed, albeit after the fact.  I was duly chastised, yet secretly delighted I had eaten so many.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME?!

Would I do it again.  ~not even thinking twice~  Yes.

Now that Husband knows that I am not a reliable gingerbread man sharer, we have a system: As fun Christmasy food and snacks get delivered, we bargain for what we want.

H: I’ll give you three Gingerbread men for one package of Moose Munch.

M: Make it five and you have a deal.

It’s a sickness for which I pray there is no cure.

I can’t be alone in this affliction; tell me that you too crave foods out of season.

What is it you want right now, but can’t have?

I miss XMAS and THANKSGIVING so much right now, it's not even funny! They're so far away! I miss how everyone acts, I miss hanging out with my family, I miss giving gifts, I miss the delicious food and I miss hanging out by the fire!! Ugh. I am sad now too because I am not going home for 4th of July - :(

It was way more fun and relaxed because the expectations weren't there. Just good food and lovely family.

I would make gingerbread men year round but they are too much work! I usually only make my Italian fig cookies at Christmas (A LOT of work!) but recently made a batch to eat and take to a friend that I never got to see over the holidays. Didn't realize how much I was craving them until I took the first bite! Visiting from Sweet & Savoury Sundays and following you via Pinterest!

They are a lot of work, that why I don't make them and instead wait for my yearly stash! I was wondering if I could bribe my friend to make me some now. Maybe a barter. I make killer fudge.
