Fudgy Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars Gone Awry

It was my fault.  I didn’t blame the bars, or the recipe, or Mel’s Kitchen Cafe where I found the recipe.

I even know exactly where I went wrong.  My pan was too small (I need a new 9 x 13 baking pan) and I cut them before they had a chance to cool properly and set.

Now, I’m an experienced baker; I know what I’m doing and how to make. things. work.  The main problem I had, other than my total lack of patience?  Photographing them.  Taking them out of the pan waaaay too early was an invitation for them to slide into lazy indistinguishable geometric shapes.  Baa!

Don’t believe me?  Behold!

Is it a reckless rectangle?

Definitely a misshapen, but delicious, Fudgy Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar.

The entire pan is in the fridge cooling.  I plan to cleanly cut those bad boys and stick them in the freezer.  And yes, I was too lazy to take more shots when they were firm and could hold their shape.  After my initial shock seeing the shots I got, their undefined borders grew on me.

While they looked, well, like that…they were nevertheless OMGOODNESSGRACIOUS delicious. The fudgy, the toffee, the cookie.  Yes, yes and absolutely yes.

My apologies to Mel.  CLICK HERE to see how to do it right and for the glorious recipe.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cut some chocolate-y goodness way too early because my kids (ok…and me too) just couldn’t wait. So I understand your dilemma! The photos came out really nice, though – because I tell ya…My mouth is watering!

  12. They look absolutely delish! And even if they don’t look 100% perfect (which my baking rarely does!) taste is what matters! I am definitely guilty at being impatient about getting them out the pan!

    • Mrs. Tucker says:

Most of them are in the freezer, but you’re right, it’s the taste that matters, and the taste was DELISH!

  13. Angie - easylivingmom.com says:

They still look amazing – I would be happy to take them off your hands!

  16. Ohhhh….they look delicious. I’ve been eyeing the brownie pans that cut the brownies. Today I found one at Ollies for 8.99 and just bought it. So brownies are in my near future–just so I can try the pan, of course. Yeah, right.
