Homemade Sandwich Bread

Oh, momma! If you have never ever made homemade bread, this is the recipe for you!

Look at that beauty!

Homemade Sandwich Bread Recipe

This is not my recipe (altho, I did tweak a bit). I found this recipe on Youtube, by the creator: LilyLouTay. Goodness, y’all. She’s so much fun to watch and her recipes all look amazing. This is the first one of hers I have tried and it didn’t disappoint.

To the recipe!

Easy Sandwich Bread Recipe

1 cup warm milk (I always use full fat)

1 tsp yeast

1 tsp sugar

Stir these three ingredients together and set aside. I placed a kitchen towel over the top of the measuring cup to keep in the warmth and help that yeast bloom.

~~~~~~~~~
3 cup all purpose flour (I am now baking exclusively with Italian flour because they don’t process it like American flours. You CAN taste the difference. At the end of the post I’ll link.)
1 tsp sea salt
3 tbsps of butter
Mix all ingredients together with your hands, so you can feel that the butter is completely cut in (like biscuits)
~~~~~~~~~~

Make sure your yeast has grown. It will look distincly different than the milk with a tannish color.

Add the yeast and 1 egg (even better if it’s farm fresh!) to the flour mixture and using your hands again, mix completely and do a light knead.

Cover and place in a warm spot for 1 hour.

~~~~~~~~~~
Once the dough has finished it’s first rise, roll out lightly into a rectangle shape, then shape into a loaf.
Butter a loaf pan and place dough inside to rise for 30 more minutes
~~~~~~~~~~~

15 minutes before your dough has completely risen (half way through the last rise), preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Once the dough has completed the last rise, place into hot oven and bake 30 minutes.

Have butter and maybe honey or jam ready for hot bread!

Easy Sandwich Bread

Loaf of homemade bread on a cutting board

That’s it! Homemade sandwich bread in about 2 hours!

Now, here is what I actually did, so you won’t feel bad if you don’t follow the directions as written:

I accidentally cut short the first rise by 9 minutes. OY! But as you can see it was fine.

I cut short the cook time by 2-3 minutes, because I cook by smell (been baking for years, so this is a thing!)

I pulled it out, thumped the top and it resounded as if hollow. That’s what you want!

I plopped it out of the pan and cut immediately, slathering it with butter and peach preserves.

Oh My!

Double The Recipe

The only thing I’ll change next time is that I will double the recipe and make two loaves at a time.

Sandwich bread for ever’one!

Wait, I’ll also slice the bread completely while hot. It’s easier to slice that way.

That crusty top makes slicing easy!

I’ll also slice the second loaf and put into the freezer. That way I can take out what I need and never waste a slice.

Well?

What are you waiting on?
