Theragun Elite Review

Theragun Elite Review

Ooolala, who doesn’t want a Theragun!

~OR~

You have no idea what a Theragun is, but you are intrigued.

Either way, here is my unpaid, unsponsored, Theragun Elite review after a year’s use.

~ A gentle reminder: OMT! uses Amazon referral links at no cost to you. ~

What is a Theragun?

Let’s start here for any of the uninitiated.

A Theragun is a percussion therapy device, used for deep tissue muscle treatments.

A pounder for your sore muscles!

It’s the high-end Maserati to the low-end Yugo versions of percussion tools on the market.

Do Theraguns work?

For us, yes.

For all those in the 1000s of testimonials, yes.

For professional athletes, yes.

For living room wrestlers, yes. (what?!)

Theraguns work and they work powerfully to break up muscle tension, knots, and to relieve muscle soreness after tough workouts.

In the time that we have owned ours, it has improved knee tightness, hamstring pulls, shoulder pain, back tension, plantar tightness and pain, hip issues, IT band issues, and as a fun aside, the tiny attachment has helped the pads of my thumbs after long bouts of gardening or writing.

What do Theraguns do?

Our Theragun has changed how we heal.

This list is from the Thergun website:

  • Decreases muscle soreness & stiffness
  • Faster warmup & recovery
  • Increases blood flow
  • Decreases lactic acid
  • Improves range of motion
  • Hydrates tissue
  • Improves stretching ability

Garry and I can attest to the amazingness that is this list of benefits.

Why are Theraguns so expensive?

Speaking of ridiculously fun and fast cars, knowing that Theraguns are the premium of percussion tools, it stands that they pack more proprietary technology into every tool.

That ain’t cheap.

It helps to know the science behind how and why they work, to help soften the blow of your credit card swipe.

Is (any) Theragun worth it?

A thousand times yes.

We have used ours almost daily and I can’t imagine our busy life without one any more.

I’m a runner and Garry loves him some pickle ball.

We are very active and it shows.

Being active = sore muscles, muscles pulls, and muscle strains that need attention.

Before our Theragun, we relied on lacrosse balls (still a very good help), rollers, and each other to fix what ailed us.

Theragun: worth it?

I ask again because I want you to imagine the muscular issues, aches and pains, that you have had in the last year.

Done?

Now, ask yourself: Is it worth spending $350-ish on a percussion tool to help you rebound in hours or a few days as opposed to a week or more?

Is it worth less than $1 a day to continue you busy life instead of having to stop and have a longer recovery using other methods?

Theragun attachment guide:

These are the attachments that came with our Elite. Each one is my favorite depending on when I need it!

From the manufacturer:

5 Easy-to-Clean Closed Cell Foam Attachments

Hard plastic attachments can harm the body, so we designed ours with comfortable, non-porous closed-cell foam, which can be easily cleaned for a hygienic and relaxing experience. Each has a unique shape and impact level to ensure the right treatment in the right area—the result of years of feedback from our founder Dr. Jason’s actual patients.

  • Dampener Attachment – Impact Level: 3/10 – Used mostly for tender or bony areas. Perfect for overall use.
  • Standard Ball Attachment – Impact Level: 5/10 – Perfect for overall use on large and small muscle groups.
  • Thumb Attachment – Impact Level: 7/10 – Used mostly for trigger points and the lower back.
  • Wedge Attachment – Impact Level: 5/10 – Perfect for shoulder blades and IT bands and commonly used for “scraping” and “flushing,” which help to decrease the amount of lactic acid in muscles.
  • Cone Attachment – Impact Level: 10/10 – Used mostly for pinpoint muscle treatment, including the hands and feet.

The elite is one step down from the professional Theragun (your favorite chiro has a professional gun!), but there are others to choose from.

What is included in a Theragun Elite purchase?

  1. Theragun Elite
  2. Protective carrying case
  3. 5 attachments (see above)
  4. Power adapter
  5. Relief (not really – that’s not in the box, but you’ll sure get it!)
  6. Cake (NOT REALLY! – but yer gonna want some to celebrate after a good thumpin’!)

A case for the Theragun case.

Our case is next to the couch, where we Theragun (verb’d!) the most.

It’s not too big to be noticed by anyone but us. Tucks in nicely against furniture.

The case is durable enough for travel. It’s a semi-hard zipper case that has inside pockets for the charging adapter and the attachments.

The case is designed pefectly for the job.

Theragun Elite charge time.

Upon opening the box, we plugged in our charger and left it overnite.

When the battery is depleted, it takes 110 minutes to fully charge the Theragun Elite.

Fully charged, the built-in battery lasts for 120 minutes.

Bonus: wireless charging is enabled!

How many speeds does the Elite have?

Five glorious speeds on the gun itself.

5-Speeds with customizable speed range through their app. Yes, there’s an app for the Theragun!

Is the Theragun noisy?

I can’t say as compared to other devices, but for us, the noise is nothing we think much about.

I’d say on a noise level of 1-100, it’s in the 30 range.

Garry will use it while we are watching TV and, depending on the speed he’s using, I can hear just fine.

That may not help you, but for me, it’s not overwhelmingly noisy.

How much does the Elite Theragun weigh?

The Elite weighs 2.2 pounds.

The best part about that is the design.

They have a patented Theragun Triangle multi-grip design, which allows for many ways to hold the device without strain on arms or hands.

My favorite hold is using the inside cutout.

Easy to hold and maneuver.

Theragun depth of percussion.

This is were the Theragun shines, where it earns its keep:

The percussion reaches 60% deeper into the muscle than the average massager.

It touches and comes off the body 40 times per second.

Couple that with the speed variables and you can get between 1750 – 2400 percussions per minute (PPM).

WHAT THE WHAT?!

While you might think this would quickly overstimulate your skin, it doesn’t.

It’s stinkin’ magic.

Therabody app is available.

This percussion tool has all you will ever need in such a tool, including an app.

There’s an app for that!

The Therabody app learns from your unique behaviors and it integrates with Apple Health and Google Fit to recommend guided wellness routines on any Bluetooth® enabled Theragun device.

We have not used the app, but you can do a quick Google check to see what folks think.

Where can you buy a Theragun?

You can grab one off of Amazon (my affiliate link, which costs you nothing!), zip to a multitude of Theragun retailers (Target being one), or buy one directly from Therabody.

They make it easy for you!

As I stated in the beginning of this post, I am not being paid for this Theragun Elite review.

We absolutely love ours and simply want to share this natural healing help with you.

Let me know if you have one or are considering purchasing one.

No matter which one you have or buy, I can’t imagine you’d be disappointed.

Happy Thumping, y’all!
