Y’all…Y’ALL!…I bought a Cellerciser rebounder, or mini trampoline for those of us who had one of the flimsy ankle-turners in the 70’s, and I am in love with the results.

This is not the rebounders of the past – nope – this thang kills it!

What Is Rebounding?

Glad ya asked!

In the purest form, rebounding is jumping up and down on a mini trampoline.

Easy peasy!

Better yet, rebounding in it’s more advanced state is an aerobic workout that is less impactful on your joints than traditional exercise.

You can get your heart pumping and have fun!

Best yet? A rebounder is great exercise for the entire family – from children to adults.

How Do You Do Rebounding?

I started with what is called a 5-minute health bounce,  which is simply using your weight to move up and down without your feet coming off the surface of the rebounder, three times a day.

After I then graduated to a 10-minute workout, using a bounce where my feet left the surface. Fun!

After a few weeks, I was using the rebounder 5 times a week. On alternating days,

Benefits Of A Rebounder

Someone get the lights! Dr. Berg explains!

TL;DR

(too long; didn’t read – or in this case, didn’t watch)

  • It’s convenient
  • Helps mobility
  • Helps balance and can reduce your fear of falling
  • Reduces risk of osteoporosis
  • Stimulates the thyroid and lymphatic system

NASA Study

The famous 1980 study by NASA pitting a a treadmill workout against a trampoline workout came to this conclusion:

Results indicate that the magnitude of the biomechanical stimuli is greater in trampoline jumping than in running, which finding could be of use in the design of procedures to avert deconditioning in persons exposed to weightlessness.

I believe they concluded that using a trampoline was 68% more effective than running.

“UM, WHAT?!,” said every runner everywhere!

As a runner, this part was the most intriguing, and I set out to put this study to the test.

Results of Rebounding

My results have astounded me.

To put the rebounder to the test, I stopped lifting weights and I stopped running for one month. Yes, it both scared me a bit and annoyed me to not be running.

I rebounded every day. Some days I focused on upper body work and one others I focused on lower body work.

Every day I did a bit of HIIT (high-intensity interval training), as well.

Running Pace Change

My results on my first run: My pace dropped a minute and a half per mile.

WHAT?!

It had to be a fluke, right?

Well, each time I’ve run since I have found my pace to be faster each time.

HUZZAH!

All of this happened by simply running in place on the rebounder. Amazing.

Muscle Strength Change

While this one is harder to measure, I can honestly say I am as strong and possibly stronger from rebounding.

When I tell you this is a huge surprise to me – BELIEVE IT!

Never ever would I have thought to get the results I have in such a short time.

All of this being said, Husband is also rebounding and while he is committed to rebounding as his primary source of exercise, his results are a bit different.

So, know that my results and yours will vary.

Also, if your health is not optimal, check with a health provider before starting.

Rebounder Exercises

As with all things everywhere, you can get a really good idea of the all the trampoline exercises you can do on YouTube, but here’s a good list of the rebounder exercises I do.

  1. Jumping Jacks
  2. High Knees
  3. Trampoline Squats
  4. Running In Place
  5. Arm Circles
  6. Single Leg Bounces
  7. Torso Twists
  8. Chest Presses
  9. Butt kicks

Rebounder Trampoline Benefits

  • Lymphatic Drainage
  • Easy on Joints
  • Cardio induces cardiovascular strength
  • Increased muscle strength and tone
  • Strengthens bones
  • Improved balance
  • Better Sleep

And the list goes on and on…

Balance Bar

Should you also get the balance bar?

We did and it’s amazing to use it as you get your bearings and to use as you start doing the more advanced moves.

You can easily take it off (ours is off at the moment) and store it, but having it has been a plus.

We fall in the “older adult” category, so purely from a safety stance, better safe than sorry.

Rebounder Stability

I was completely worried about the stability of the Cellerciser because I’m HARD on mah stuff.

I could totally visualize me trying old lady trick and being flung off of it.

That hasn’t happened once – ha!

I’m lighter than Husband and felt like either one of us was gonna mangle the unit. Nope. This thang is solid.

Doesn’t wobble. Doesn’t “walk”. Doesn’t make either of us feel unsafe.

You can buy a round mat that goes underneath, if it makes you feel better.

Bellicon Rebounder

When I was researching rebounders, I came to understand that the big debate was between Cellerciser and Bellicon.

I ultimately decided on the Cellerciser for a few reasons.

The main reasons were construction and warranty.

Here is the creator Dave Hall explaining:

My understanding with the bungee cord system is that the band strength is based on the weight of the user. BEcause Husband and I have a big weight difference, we didn’t want to invest in two units.

Cellerciser works with all weight in one unit. Problem solved.

There is also a 30-day return policy. So use it and see for yourself.

Drawbacks

Yep, there are a few things that I find myself thinking about (but know these in no way make me wish I hadn’t invested in a Cellerciser).

Jumping Area

We would both like the diameter of the jumping area to be bigger.

That being said, I have found the longer I use the rebounder, the more stable I am in the middle of the jumping area.

Storage

We bought the bi-fold rebounder and LOVE that it can be folded for travel.

It can also be stored under a bed or in a closet when not in use, both we both use it several times a day, so we keep it open and ready to roll!

Product Information

This is the product information for our particular model:

” The 1/2 fold Cellerciser® folds in half for easy storage and transport in its accompanying carrying case. Its Tri-Daptable® springs, space-age mat material, and all-steel construction provide superior strength, safety, and long-life durability.

The included Balance/Performance Bar attaches to the Cellerciser® for added balance and support, is adjustable to 3 heights, and breaks down for storage or transport in the Cellerciser® carrying case.

The patented Tri-Daptable® spring technology offers the only self-adjusting adaptive spring of its kind on the market so “all” family members can use the same unit!

Comes with a lifetime warranty on the frame, rubber feet, bullhorns, pins and 5 year on springs and mat.* When used properly we hope the Cellerciser® will provide you a lifetime of benefits.”

Squeaking

Probably the biggest question we get is does our rebounder squeak because of the steel springs.

It did! I was disappointed! I was wondering if we could live with the noise!

Then I got a hold of myself, and we remedied that issue by placing a drop of oil on each spring and it is so quiet now that I never know when Husband is using it.

CAVEAT When Oiling:

When you oil, do so on a protected surface as you will have drops.

Also, I would suggest that you bounce on it for about 20 minutes afterwards to allow any oil that gets loose to fall unto a protected spot and not on your floors or carpet.

It will go from squeaky to sooo quiet afterwards.

In Conclusion

While it’s only been a relatively short time that we have been rebounding, I am so grateful I found Cellerciser.

No more weather interruption in my workouts (this alone is HUGE!). No more excuses – it’s easy to use. No more thinking about joining a gym (you can go to rebounder classes tho!).

It’s been one of the best investments in our health and that’s why I want everyone to know about rebounding.

It’s good for the health of the entire family.

How often do you get to say that about a piece of sports equipment that you have invested in?

Almost never. That’s how often
